The Jackal is doing the business
ByI am $414 ahead so far with the Jackal but I am running into difficulties in playing enough hours and this may be even more of a problem next month. I have managed to play around 2.5k hands so the earn rate so far is $16.56/100 hands. This equates to $4.13/100 per table or just [...]

Hi Carl,
I am an experienced and marginally profitable 50NL short handed online player. I play about 20 hours a week.
I recently read your cash game book. I am particularly interested in a piece you wrote at the beginning of the book. It was about a student of yours who you reviewed hand histories of. You said you couldn’t understand why he is a break-even player as his play was “spot on for hand after hand”. Then you noticed that he was making occasional big errors in that he was getting his stack in bad in certain situatons, like top and bottom 2 pair on a very drawy board. Furthermore you said that he was doing this in the full knowledge that he was beaten. This last sentence is the crux of the issue as far as I’m concerned.
That player is me, well not literally of course, but you will know what I mean. I have this same leak and I would say this leak is costing me 4-5 buy-ins a month… so it is very serious.
As I said, this is a glaring leak in my own game and is something I have been trying to tackle for about 2 months now. I know (at least I think I know) the root of the problem – reacting emotionally rater than analytically to certain in-game pressure situations, but I am still having a problem eliminating it from my game.
I was wondering if your student managed to eliminate or minimise this leak and if so how he went about it? How is he doing now?
Many thanks if you have he time to answer this. I really enjoy reading your magazine articles and of course your cash game book.
Regards,
Cal
